Germany Announced Humboldt Residency Scholarship 2025

The Humboldt Residency Programme 2025 is now accepting applications from visionary thinkers passionate about addressing one of humanity’s most pressing challenges: “The Future of Food.” This prestigious six-week residency, organized annually, is set to take place in Brandenburg and Berlin, Germany, and aims to foster innovative, interdisciplinary collaboration among professionals from diverse fields.

The 2025 residency will explore the complex interplay of technological innovation, ethical practices, and shifting social norms shaping the global food landscape. Participants will collaborate through interactive sessions, workshops, and engaging dialogues to develop creative and transformative solutions.

Benefits of the Humboldt Residency Scholarship

Selected participants will receive a comprehensive package of support, including:

  • Monthly Allowance: Financial assistance for the six-week residency.
  • Travel Allowance: Coverage for travel expenses to and from Germany.
  • Accommodation: Housing provided for two weeks at Schloss Wiepersdorf and four weeks in Berlin.
  • Family Support: Accommodation and childcare assistance for participants traveling with dependent family members.
  • Event Budget: Funding to facilitate public engagement events and creative projects.

Participants will engage in dynamic exchanges and communicate their findings to broader audiences using innovative formats such as debates, workshops, and blogs.

Eligibility and Application Details

The programme is open to:

  • Humboldt Foundation Alumni: Three former fellowship or award recipients not currently engaged in ongoing Humboldt programmes.
  • Junior Researchers: Three PhD candidates or recent PhD holders (within the last four years) not based in Germany.
  • Professionals in Civil Society, Journalism, Arts, or Social Entrepreneurship: Five participants not affiliated with academic institutions.

Applicants should have a strong connection to the 2025 theme and demonstrate a creative approach to the topic.

How to Apply?

To apply, candidates must submit the following:

  1. A completed application form.
  2. A CV in Euro pass format.
  3. A 60-second introductory video (details provided in the application form).

Applications must be submitted by email to residency[at]avh.de with the subject line “Application Humboldt Residency Programme 2025.” The deadline for submission is 9 December 2024, and applications are processed on a rolling basis. The selection committee’s decisions will be finalized in January 2025, with notifications issued in early February 2025.

Programme Schedule

  • June 2025: Virtual kick-off meeting
  • 4 – 15 August 2025: Two-week residency at Schloss Wiepersdorf
  • 15 August – 12 September 2025: Four-week residency in Berlin
  • September – November 2025: Remote finalization of outputs
  • November 2025: Virtual wrap-up event

Note: Participants must be present in person for the residency period from 4 August to 12 September 2025.
